THERE WAS A TIME Mick Peaker there was a time when i was young there was a time when i was free there was a time i had fun playing in the water there was a time when i was me but now those days are gone and now those days have left me and now those days are drowned in the ocean in some place called memory there was a time when i could love there was a time when she loved me there was a time in the sun we’d swim in the river there was a time when i was me the sun is rising out from under the horizon a fire is rising from the sea

ONE FOR THE ROAD Mick Peaker Someone has shot out the street light That old dog is barking from behind the fence The sun sinking low creates your silhouette My shirt is torn open and my soul is all wet A car passes by me going nowhere The tyres are singing a Gregorian chant You ask me a question and I say, “No dear” You know that I want to, but I know I can’t One for the road One for the memories I hold in my hand And can never let go You still love me I know But there’s just one thing that I ask May I have One for the road? The lights on the bar are buzzing around my eyes That old dog beside me has become my friend The car turns around and offers to give me a ride To drive me away from old beginnings, toward a new end Now that was the day That my days had ended But sometimes it’s nice to simply pretend One for the road One for the memories I hold in my hand And can never let go You still love me I know But there’s just one thing that I ask May I have One for the road?

ROSE IN A GARDEN Mick Peaker there is a rose in a garden that is just out of reach and so i imagine its fragrance so sweet i think of what it’s like to feel those petals on my lips or the sting of its thorns upon my finger tips but i can only imagine i can only imagine for it’s just out of reach i could be lost in your perfume i could be half way to the moon i could drink wine straight from your lips I could be flying sailing ships but i can only imagine i can only imagine i can only imagine for it’s just out of reach just out of reach

THE BULLET OR THE BOOK Mick Peaker A policeman lies in waiting It was a year ago today When he lost his friend, his partner “Throw down your weapon, move away!” Where do you go when there’s nowhere left to run? A choice has to be made fast Your finger feels tight on the trigger of your gun You hear a resounding blast You know that sound By the book, shot down With eyes cast down he walks With a bible in his hand Down a road he has not yet traveled Into New York’s finest hands Where do you go when there’s nowhere left to run? Your candle is fading fast Your hands lifted up, reached towards the risen sun Salvation is found at last The Lord, he saw your heart and cried your name The bullet had its mark, your life to claim By the book shot down There’s crimson in a chalk line And a question overlooked Which killed or brought salvation? Was it the bullet or the book?

LAUGH LOVE LIVE Mick Peaker These are the best of my days These are the worst of the very same As I look on the years the years that flowed by Like a stream Flowing ever into the sea Of forgotten memories Tell me what more can I give But to laugh, love, live Fight the fight to forgive And to laugh, love, live Laugh, love, live A flame begins with a spark Its fire lights up the darkest heart As I walk through the dead of the night It comes to me Like a candles flickering light Like the kiss of angels Tell me what more can I give But to laugh, love, live Fight the fight to forgive And to laugh, love, live Laugh, love, live It seemed so much easier to do When I was with you But heavens wind blew you away There was nothing I could say So… Tell me what more can I give But to laugh, love, live Fight the fight to forgive And to laugh, love, live Laugh, love, live

LONG WAY TO RUN Mick Peaker Not so long ago I saw a window and looked through I saw an opportunity to make my dreams come true And then like so many others I have met along the way I turned and said, “come back and try me again some other day” But... It’s a long way To run when there’s no turning back And it’s a damn shame To let that chance go by It may be a long time Before you see it down the track And it’s a hard climb To reach and touch the sky At night I see your picture staring at me from my bed Just like you’re reading everything that’s going through my head I think back to those days when I would look into your eyes But I could not say those words you longed to hear And I don’t know why 'Cause... Now I'm walking through these streets, the rain is falling on my head And I can't escape the thought I might be there with you instead I know I’ve let my time slip by and there is nothing I can say But...
